Advocacy & Leadership

For over 40 years, Isaac dedicated his life to championing the rights, dignity, and autonomy of individuals navigating mental health challenges. As one of the foundational figures of the consumer/survivor/ex-patient (c/s/x) movement, his work transformed mental health systems in New York City and across the nation.

He helped establish Baltic Street Wellness Solutions (formerly Baltic Street AEH) more than three decades prior to his passing, guiding its growth from grassroots organizing into New York’s largest peer-run agency. Under his leadership as CEO and executive director, the organization pioneered groundbreaking peer bridger models in hospitals and adult homes, serving as a national beacon of hope, mutual aid, and empowerment.

Artistic Work

Beyond his immense administrative and advocacy contributions, Isaac was a prolific and accomplished painter. His artwork—characterized by a deep exploration of the human experience, peace, and color—was displayed across various venues and offices as an enduring reflection of his creative spirit. He was also an avid collector of music, guitars, and art, and drew personal inspiration from the community-focused philosophy of the Grateful Dead. His art—informed by global travels and deep personal convictions—spanned more than 35 years and has been exhibited in various New York venues and collected internationally.

Legacy

His immense contributions to the mental health community are honored through initiatives such as the Isaac Brown Healing Arts & Recovery Center in Brooklyn, New York. He is remembered by friends and coworkers for his fierce advocacy, infectious enthusiasm, bear hugs, and profound compassion.
